Mate the hood recall in Australia included a new hood grill, it was ordered when car was booked in for recall, so they did not break the old one, I actually saw my old one, they gave it to me to remove my hood handles from it, then they made me hand the old grill back and they swapped it for the new one and I refitted the hood handles to the new grill before they installed it for me. They were quite **** about it and would not give me both grills at once as they must have been worried I was going to keep both. Dealer said they had to send the old one back to distributor, I actually saw them wrap it up in the box the new one came in.

They also did a recall on the rear wiring harness for the tow bar as well, replacing the tail light and trailer harness, all seems to work fine.

Re the lift I cranked it up to just over 23.5" yesterday and it was too high, the car looked higher at the front than the rear, so I dropped it back down to 23" straight away. Took the car for a 200km drive today and suspension worked as normal, noticed no difference at all to ride or handling. Remeasured the suspension and rear was still 24" but front had come up to 23 1/4"????? So I will drop it down a turn of the bolts before the next drive, will monitor, and remeasure after the next few drives till it settles on 23" even. Want to get it set spot on before I fit new tyres and get wheel alignment done.

Not worried about tyre wear for time being as these tyres will be replaced within the next 4-6 weeks anyway.

I think I have pretty much settled on the '285/75-16 Mudhog Extreme Mud Terrain Tyre', final decision will be when I see it in real life. So it will be a 33" tyre, giving the whole H3 another inch and a bit of ground clearance. We have plenty of mud and water crossings here, so these tyres should work well as long as look tough, most locals around here run mud tyres and their 4x4's and work vehicles.

 

When you measured 23" was that to under the plastic flare? The US models don't come with the flare and I was wondering if the actual metal fender is exactly the same for both models. What I'm asking is, what's the maximum you can safely lift the Australian model with factory fender flares? To make it more difficult to get an accurate measurement my flares flex up and down 1/2" with light finger pressure.

 

Not sure about the flare thing, but my guess is level is level, no matter if it has flares or not. I measured to the lower outer edge on the flare from centre of wheel hub. Factory setting on mine was front 21.5" and rear 24" making a 2 1/2" difference, I have now got 23" front and still 24" at the back, so still riding 1" lower at the front, but any higher than 23" it looked too tall for my liking.

The actual measurement would not matter as long as its measured in the same spot the same way each time. So you can compare before and after.

I will fine tune it further before getting tyres and wheel alignment in about 4-6 weeks.

Hopefully it will be set and forget

It's a handy little kit and all fits into the recovery bag that came with the ****** strap.



Also fitted a K&N filter at the last service, can't go wrong for $60





Will take some photos of the new lifted Hummer, and getting some mud tyres in about three weeks hopefully

 

This is what the truck looks like after raising the front to 23", still has standard sized 265/75-16 rubber, have booked truck in for new tires on Saturday, also will be getting a wheel alignment done. Rear still sits at 24". so it still runs a 1" rake

It looks like I will be getting a set of Summit Mud Hog Extreme in 33", 285/75-16.

Thanks for the great ideas on this forum. I've been trying to figure out where to carry 2 Jerry cans and I have a similar trailer. By the way I convered all my chrome with black Plasti-Dip 8+ coats and it came out perfect plus added protection when off road the great thing about it, if needed it's reversible.

 

Mate trailers are a great idea for these cars when traveling, just came back from a weeks trip with the H3, from the Gold Coast in Queensland, and it was great to have the trailer with me!

Have also fitted my 33" mud tires. Made an awesome difference, really changed the look of the H3, get so many more looks now.

Next job will be some long range driving lights and some Hummer wheels for the trailer
