It is a base model, so I believe that means it has the 4:11 gears. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

The previous poster was asking about your T-case gearing. If you have a base I5 then you have a 2.XX:1 T-case. The Adventure/OffRoad equipped H3/H3Ts had the 4.03:1 T-case gearing. As far as your diff gears, if you have a base I5 you will have 4:56s (f&r). Alphas came with 4:10s (f&r).

Here is a breakdown I have compiled with some of the options available through the years of H3/H3T production:

Thanks for the data and education. Two different gearing in two different gear boxes. I'm guessing the lower T case gearing is because of the smaller motor. They tried to make up for this with tall rear gears to give the feel of more torque at the wheels.

I guess my next question is why would someone ask? I would think the larger tires would increase the gear ratio at the point of ground contact. In this case I would think that the larger tires would provide more starting torque (hence more broken parts). With the lower T case gearing and higher axle gearing the larger tires would bring the final ratio higher (somewhere in the 5's), thus a higher revving engine using more gas.

Am I missing something, confusing my concepts or should I be worried I was not thorough in my research?

My new tires came today! They are General Grabber Red Line 315/75/16 and laying on the floor, they seem huge! Mounting and install are next Wednesday. I'll post a pick when all 5 are on the truck.

Not sure what exactly you are getting at in the above statement.

Larger than stock tires WILL decrease the overall axle ratio (ex: 4:56 with a 2" taller tire will be close to a 4:15 ratio). The T-case gearing is the same for both the Base and Adventure/OffRoad t-cases in 4HI and 4Hilock. The advantage is when you go into 4lo. the Adventure/OffRoad T-cases offer a much higher numerical "final crawl ratio". Which is what you want when crawling over obsticles OffRoad.

Does not happen till Wednesday. I'm trying out the service that comes to your house with a truck to do the mounting, balancing, install and TPM set up. I'll let you know how it turns out. Picture by next weekend...

Thrilled with the results! Thinking hard about that 1 inch body lift now. Very slight rub with wheels at full turn.
