Default Anyone Have Nitrogen Filled Tires?

The low tire pressure warning came on my h3 today and according to what the dealer told me the tires need to be filled with nitrogen. I had no idea that there was such a thing. Its suppose to be better for the enviorment. Whats your opinion on nitrogen filled tires?

I've always heard its cause nitrogen wont permeate as easily through the polymer chains that make up the tire, more consistent pressure (considering temperature) and reduced moisture
O2 does have a greater
molecular weight (32) than N2 (28), but O2 is actually smaller in size. Thus, O2 fits through the relatively tight passage
ways between polymer chains in the rubber more easily than does N2. The difference is size between O2 and N2 is
very small, only about 0.3 times 10 to the -10th meters (0.00000000003 meters).

I have about 78% nitrogen in my tires... I only go for around 21% oxygen. The rest is a mixed cocktail. Works out just fine for me.

Worthless, the air we breath is 78% nitrogen, nitrogen filled tires could get you about 95% pure.

The difference in pressure loss is minimal @ a 3% difference.

Your dealer is full of it, they are just trying to sell you air. While nitrogen is better, its not needed. I use it in my street cars, but I air down my hummer tires to often, and just use free air. If you stay on the pavement, and feel like spending the money, go for it. But imo its not worth it for a truck.

I have it in mine, I got it done at dunn tire for $20 for all 5 tires and they will refill them whenever it needs it. I had it done in the summer of 2009 and never had to put air or nitrogen in the tires since. The wal-mart where I live and all the dunn-tires here fill any tire that has to come off the rim with nitrogen. I have heard pros and cons to it, but I haven't had any issues yet and I guess it's all preference.

I have them, suppose to run cooler, make tires last longer, no pressure swings with cool and hot weather changes, and several other advantages. No extra charge where I bought my tires, if you are running low on pressure you can add reg air no prob. I can go back and have it replaced with all nitrogen whenever needed, no charge. Only advantage I have really seen over past year and 1/2 since having it done is I have not added a lb. period to all five... Wife, daughter, and both son's tires I have been adjusting for weather changes, mine hasn't moved...
