Aftermarket license plate installed in tailgate
So I have a 2007 and hated the tire carrier. Ofcourse after doing so I was caught a bit off guard that there wasnt a light setup for the license plate where the older models do.
I called around and oem setup was just under $500 and that included the black plastic insert thats already there. The oem one just comes with lights and wiring.
My setup... Putco chrome license frame ( very good looking part ) with a 12" piece of white flex neon led's. It's so thin that you cant even see it under the lip (eyebrow) of the frame.
Popped the inside liner off, drilled a small holes for wires and then routed wiring next to oem to the running lights and tapped in there.
The led lights glow over th plate and make it really look clean and custom. Total price. $160

If you zoom in and look under the eyebrow lip you will see the flex neon led strip. Excuse the quality as they were taken at night w Iphone. The ones with lights on might have a shining effect or glare because of pic, but it looks awesome at night. It just illuminates the plate better and all the way across given its and led the length of the plate. Not a dull brown light look with the standard lighting.

Looks great! I'm going to do the same thing. Took my spare off and have been debating on what to do. Any other tips before I start? ...and you just tapped into the old wires that the spare mount plugged into correct?
Thanks!

Thank you..I have some install photos if that would help you out? I have a hi-def video also.
I went with a cleaner oem style install and ran the wires along the wire harness and up to the three middle running lights. The other way wouldn't have worked since the gate has to come open (raise up). Anyone else wouldn't even know additional wiring had been used.
