Scratch marks underneath, dents on the floor pan, dirt jammed into different places, and if anything looks like it's been hit underneath. Be sure to try out the different gears on the transfer case and transmission.

Im not sure. My rule of thumb when buying an H2 is looking underneath and checking for scratches and gashes. The H2 that has been offroaded and hurt to death will speak out to you. You will know when u see it!

I'm new on the forum and just recently bought an 03. I wish I would have asked more questions and did more research on sites like this BEFORE buying.

Although I can't complain about the deal I got for it with 86,000 miles, I wish I would have known more about issues that they can have, especially the 03's.

1. I would look for a 2005 or higher. From reading on here, it sounds like the rattles in the interior got addressed on the 08 models. Although, I don't notice too much with the 03.

2. What kind of suspension do you want? I recently posted about my issue with the suspension taking a dump right after I bought it. It seems sooner or later everyone will deal with it. I bought the coil springs and am going to swap out the air suspension so I don't have to deal with it again.

3. I drove a 2001 Tahoe for 130,000 miles and only had to change out the brakes, tires and fuel pump. I was quick to learn how expensive these are to fix. If you keep up on the maintenance and take care of it you should be alright, but I can tell the (2) previous owners didn't do that. So, it is already back at the dealership getting fixed.

4. Definitely have a mechanic look at it before buying and purchase a warranty for it.

5. There's almost and infinite number of add-ons and accessories for them so I would cruise through the pictures of other H2's to see what you like and then try to buy one with everything that you want already installed.

6. A friend of mine was a manager at a Hummer dealership so I got some info from him. It doesn't sound like the Hummer's have too many engine or transmission problems so a high mileage vehicle shouldn't be much of an issue if it was taken care of. Unfortunately, you probably won't know for sure.

Anyways...Good luck!

Personally, I used CarGurus.com to help with average price based on year and mileage. I ended up using a local dealer and having him shop the auctions until he found what I was looking for. In the end I'm quite happy.

You can have either the air suspension, which includes air bags and a compressor that controls them (adjustment to height/level) or you can have coil springs, which are fixed in place.

I did have the air suspension. The vehicle was sitting low in the back and the compressor did not come on to fill the air bags out. When I went to have it looked at it was discovered the compressor was bad. The dealership wanted over 2000 to fix. You can find the compressors for around 750 and install it yourself. I just opted to switch it out to the coil springs, which cost me under 300.

I plan on keeping my H2 for many years so I went with an option I knew I wouldn't have to fix again.
