Default 50k service WOW

Well I went by my dealership to ask about my 50k service. I am scratchign my head.

1. Change gear oil in the front and rear diffs
2. Change oil and filter on motor.
3. Full service to the transmission
4. Tire rotation and alignment

700 dollars.

Should I do it? Does is need all of these things???? If I don't when do the specific ones need to be done?

Well, you can either believe that the recommended maintenance schedules are there to, 1) Keep your Hummer running well, or 2) Part you from your hard earned money before the maintenance really needs to be done.

I sleep better knowing I am sticking to the scheduled maintenance. If I want to cut costs somewhere, I'll learn to do the maintenance myself.

In your owners manual it tells you when it needs to be done. I do everything myself, it cuts down cost tremendously and I know that it's done right.

No i have no idea really who to take it to. I will go through the manual later on and see what needs to be done. Just 800 dollars for that simple stuff is kinda expensive. I would do all the work but some things I have no idea what I am doing.

I'd agree.

Although an indepenant is a crap shoot as to the quality of their work...

My off the top of my head estimates...
$125-ish tire rotation & alignment
$100-ish trans fluid and filter change
$50 oil change
$150 front and rear diff fluid change...
$425-ish is decent....

I did a similar maintenance on my wifes Honda Odyssey and it ran $500 at the stealership....I was too lazy to do it myself...

I did the oil in the diffs and transfer case myself. Replaced it with redline. Easy enough to do. Took about an hour. Bought the redline from Jegs.

Took it to a shop to do the transmission oil. Didn't do the flush, had them drop the pan and change the filter and clean the magnet. That was about $130.

Changed the engine oil with Mobile 1, that was about $35.

There's a drain plug and fill plug on the front diff. Just make sure you can get the fill plug loose before draining the oil.
On the transfer case, I unscrewed the magnetic speed pickup on the top of the case and filled from there. The fill hole on the transfer case is too low to get the right level.
