Default 4L60-E or manual 5 speed ???

Hi, I'm new here in this forum.. I need your help please...

I want to ask before purchasing a Hummer H3 (either 3.5 L or 3.7 L)..

Which transmission is better in torque and off-roading when climbing dunes "4L60-E" auto or the "MA5" 5 speed manual ???

Please let me know before I purchase one..

Welcome aboard!

For rocks and trails, I'd rather drive an auto. For mostly sand, either would be fine by me.

If you are going to own the truck for a long time or are buying one with a lot of miles, maybe pick the transmission type that is cheapest to service or replace. I don't know about the manual but dealers are charging $3k for an automatic trans. swap.

3.7 Litre engine would be my choice. Less head issues.

I'm a 5 speed man myself. If you get a 07 or newer and the adventure package, then with the stick you have the lowest gear possible for crawling. I believe it has a 68 to 1 crawl ratio.
IMHO.

I am a fan of manual shift myself. That said, the 5speed in the H3 has a clutch that is on the small side.

Thanks to all guys replied,

Now I'm fully convinced to purchase H3 with the manual (MA5) transmission,
this transmission is available in both BROTHERS; Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon..

The manual (MA5) ratios are:

1st: 3.75
2nd: 2.26
3rd: 1.37
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.73
(R): 3.67

*Also named as: AR-5. It can handle up to 260 ft·lbf (353 N·m) of torque.

I've got that same Aisin manual transmission in my Pontiac too so add the Solstice and Sky to your list of Brothers! Only 3rd gear is slightly lower.

In case anyone is ever interested in doing a 6-speed swap in their H3, there's an outfit doing it for the Pontiac community that has a very good reputation.
