Default 4hi lock & 4 hi open shift problems

I noticed My 2006 h3 was in 4hi lock. How? I have no idea. I pushed the 4hi button, it lit up but is still operating in lock mode. PLEASE HELP, I've already ordered a new shift fork. Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to HF. We have this strange set up here where when you have a vehicle question, it should be posted in that vehicle section. Example, H3 questions go in the H3 section.

Have you ever owned a 4wd vehicle before? Try the basics, like driving in reverse a short distance and turning back and forth in a safe open area. Then try to shift the T Case to Hi Lock and back to Hi. Do this 3 or 4 times.

When you drive in Hi Lock on dry pavement you bind up the gears and tension prevents the shift encoder from unlocking the T Case, driving in reverse with some turning here and there may unload that pent up tension so that it can then shift.

You could also just have a bad connection to the T Case shift module/encoder, or need a new one. Get under it and take a look for frayed wired, broken connector, dirt and crud in the connector.

Has this truck been stuck in deep water for any length of time before this problem occurred?
