Default 3.7L Air Filter change

Anyone attempt to change the air filter on the 3.7 I5? The dealer told me I need one, but I never pay their price and have always changed my own. It appears like a PITA though. I took the clips off and the top barely moves and inch upward. Hardly enough to get the filter out.

??? The lid come completely off when you pop all three clips on 06/07, and when you pop the two clips and disconnect the intake coupler from the 08+s.

Maybe you should pay them to change it.

I didnt realize disconnecting the coupler was a necessity as the manual doesn't mention it. The 3.5 is easy as the top pops right off.

You do not actually have to disconnect the intake coupler from the air filter box outlet on the 08+s to change the filter. The filter is a panel, so when you pop the two clips, lift up on the lid and push it to the right to compress the accordion OEM coupler and free the cover tabs at the left side of the top, then lift on the front edge to reach in and pull out the panel.

IMHO it is just easier to disconnect the coupler, it is just one 5/16" worm gear clamp nut.

Don't get anyone confused with talk about 3.5L vs 3.7L.

The real difference in air filter design is in model years.

06 (3.5L) & 07 (3.7L) have the cylidrical air filter.
08, 09, and 2010 all have the 3.7L and the air filter changed to the flat design.

Well no wonder...I was confused.. I thought it wasn't the flat design (I have an 08) When searching online it gave the round, but I also put in 3.7L.

Now it makes sense. I wasn't even trying to pull the filter out thinking it was round.
