These are quality, better than the old school copper washers, no need for O ring grove. We've used them on some race cars, no leaks ever.
I used a B&M drain plug kit right out of the box on an old truck, over 150K miles, never leaked, never loosened up?

The reason for a drain plug is to remove the pan without spill the crap everywhere so you can change the filter and then put the pan back on to re-fill with fresh. You can also flush by draining, refill with fresh, drive some miles, then drain again and change the filter. One trick is to put the plug back in after it has drained before you remove the pan, then pour out that little bit still in the bottom of the pan.
Nobody just drains an AT to refill without changing the filter, and how many times do you change AT fluid?
A trans Pan (ACDelco #24240206) is $33.00 + shipping [priced higher & w/ Tx at the local dealer] and has no drain plug. Not everybody has the time or resources to weld in a bung themselves, or go have it done, so IMHO an $8.00 plug kit is a no brainer.

sure they do....my 2500 chevy pickup has factory drain plug, and it is nice to swap new fluid in between filter changes....clean fluid works wonders...you are more likely to do it when its easier than engine oil change.....different strokes............

Nobody changes their oil without a new oil filter?

We do have a nutty customer at work, though, that insists we change his oil filter only....LOL, he insists to change oil every other filter change!
synthetic oil, but still......
