2007 H3 audio Quest
I am trying to have an after-market head unit installed in the 2007 H3. I have a Monsoon speaker system - whilst I know its a bit rubbish, this will also be replaced.. Subject to pocket allowing.. :-) oh and Wife.....
I have had a new head unit installed but I get a horid whining noise... when you accellorate, which is driving me mad. I was told that this was a dirty earth, but having run the earth wire directly from the new head unit to the battery this did not cure the problem... Any ideas>?

Drtm,
Thanks for your input, when you changed your head unit -
1) Did you retain the Monsoon speakers then? I am guessing so.... :-)
2) Did you use a PAC wiring harness? if so which one???? perhaps this is my error.... :-(

What you are describing sounds like alternator whine. Are you using an external amp to power everything, or are you using the factory wiring? I assume that you are using an external amp, as you mentioned running the earth (ground) to the battery itself. You can google altenator whine and find many causes of this. Keep your ground run as short as possible as this is the main cause of the whine, any bare metal is fine. Make sure that you have well insulated wires, and that the speaker wires aren't run near that +/- power cable to the amp either. Quality RCA and speaker cables are a must also. House speaker cable has also caused this issue for me. Other than that, you must isolate the loop (something I haven't had to do). Make sure that you use the proper size wires for +/- and that you fuse them properly!!! Good luck!

just a couple notes.
speaker wires have nothing whatever to do with alt whine.
since the stock radios have no whine, using their unmodified power wiring seems to be a good idea.
ditto for any mods to ground. the mfgr did a good job.
finally, lamp cord is fine for short runs,10 to 20 feet, like #16 or 18,up to 200 to 300 watts. no monster cables needed.
if u have noise/whine,someone messed with the good orig wires

The wiring loom of the car has not been adjusted... to the best of my knowledge... although I will have to double check....
I have a PAC C2R-GM24 wiring harness on order and hope that this solves the issue, as I am concerned that the whining noise could be from a poor wiring harness connection...
