UPDATE:

I figured out the cowl... the caps are held on by 4 clips, if you grab at windshield and pull up and out the pop off, a bit of effort required.

then take off the black plastic windshield side trim parts (2 screws in each) check the rubber weather strip on the inside of them. Mine was broken up and shrunken.. I pulled it off the trim and cleaned surfaced very well and replaced it with the double sided rubbery foam 3M tape that I use to put things like body emblems back on with

The cowl, you take off wiper arms, there ia a small screw on each end under the cap area and 2 plasstic pusn pins( trim pins) along the engine side of cowl. the cowl is held down by 4 clips just like the caps. you have to pull pretty hard and it comes off and you have to work it around off the wiper arm attachement nubs. to put it back on is a bit tricky especially since I added the 3M buytl rope just under the windshield rubber strip

naturally it was raining.... but I cleaned up all the road dirt in the cowl and wiper motor pit area. I bought 3M buytl rubber rope and went down the drivers side windshield and across the bottom and up the drivers side where thw windshield meets the A pillar paint and worked int in to get a good seal all around those 3 sides. ( I could not get the top winshield seal/trim off so I will be using blue painters tape right behind that trim on the roof and will use the 30yr clear silicon caulk for the top seal. Gonna shoot it into the gap at the roof line, run finger down the tape barrier edge I created then pull painters tape to give a good seal and a sharp clean install of the caulk.

as stated earlier I used the buytl rope to goe under the cowl weather strip so when the cowl was put back the rope is sealed against the wind shield all the was across the windshield, so water can no longer run down the windshield get past the rubber strip and und up in the cowl pit... some water will get in the cowl pit due to the mesh areas of the cowl, but the amount of water should be significantly reduced...

If this does not stop the leaking into the cab I will probably have to go to dealer or bodyshop and Pay $$$$ to fix it. but I think I will pull the roof racks and caulk them and the screws and the rear roof trim b4 I give up.

The front holes are in the corners that the glass recesses into. Really can't miss them. Haven't looked for the rear ones admittedly...

I did not even know there were rear drain holes.... the front ones are visible in the front corners of the sunroof. Open it all the way back and remove the wind screen plastic guard at the front edge of sunroof, it will give you room to pour water right into them easily and I used trimmer string and fed it down the holes to be sure nothing in there. you will see the water you poured in the holes come out underneath just inboard of the front wheel wells.

remember that the biggest culprit to leaks are the roof seams, roof lights and onstar antenna.... I used a very high quality clear silicone 30 year/ rainproof in 3 hours caulk and blue painters tape for a neat install of the caulk

also look at the 2 plastic trims on each side of the windshield... the rubber in there on mine was VERY shrunken and falling off...

also the weather strips around these trucks seem to crack and start to really fall apart at like 6 or 7 years old unless it is a garage kept truck.

its raining here again... I gotta go out and check truck

What roof seams are you referring to? Thanks

There is a seam at the top of the car right next to the mount to the roof rack, but you know someone who can confirm that it comes from the car seams?

There is a crashed hummer h2 on a scrapyard just a few mil from me so I will go there tomorrow and see how the roof is built up and I'll try to see where the weakness is for the water to leak into .. I will take photo to several places on the car and I will post them on my Facebook ...

if you look up a roof parts diagram.. the main center of the roof is a panel connected to the sides of the roof... there is a black rubber seal that runs the front to back of the roof in like a 3/4" groove just inboard of the roof rack rails....
