Sounds like your PMD is starting to go bad. Common issue. It is mounted on the injection pump in the valley of the block.

Might want to check you fuel filter (open drain and see if you get some h20 out) I've put inexpensive prefilters in my H1's you never know when you'll get some fuel with some rain or condensation in it. It can clog the filter just enough to starve the engine but when you shut the fuel pump of and think about it for a few seconds the h2o and sediments can fall back down into the filter housing waiting to get back into the filter again. That it starts up again kinda supports it's not completely out of fuel because you would probably have to crack and injector or two to get it running again. I like the cheap prefilters (eg Napa or such) much cheaper and easier to find than factory filters.

sorry I missed you changed the filter- depending on what you might have been doing and where you have obtained fuel it's really common when the rainy season is upon us that you can get a significant amout of water into your fuel tank, You might want to take you old filter and put it into alittle bit of clean fuel and shake it around and see if you get some water separating out if so you may have to either keep feeding it filters or drain the tanks.

If you think you might have some water in your fuel add 2/3 of a quart of ATF to a full tank and run the tank almost the way down to empty. Refill and see if you have the same problem.

Had my lift pump go bad and would hydrolock when it got too hot. And I had a air in fuel system issue that haunted me for two years. Ended up being a small pin size hole in my pick up tube in my tank. Kept it on full and the problem went away.
