Ive wondered how/why a locksmith can do it is my ? I don't understand why they would have an odb2 programmer. I remember a few years ago calling a couple in the phone book about it for the wifes truck and they both directed me to the dealer..
Interesting....

That's what I'm wondering either, cause I certainly did call quite a few big locksmith in the area after getting this advice here but I tell you, they all directed me to the dealership...until that lucky day...

This thread is the first time I have heard the locksmith theory. I think that is just what it is. I don't know of any other way other than an OBD2 tool.

I talked to a locksmith friend the other day, and he told me they can get you into your vehicle but as for doing key bob they direct you to the dealership. He did however tell me he's done several programming for people... but only on cetain vehicles... One were you can program without the dealerships obd2 programmers. He told me they would provide information on doing it yourself as well for free... If they vehicle was capible of it.

It can be just a theory all day long... As long as it works for me. And it did! I took my ebay fob to my locksmith in my hometown in N GA and he brought his little box out and plugged it in under my dash. Within five minutes, my ebay fob was programmed to my truck. I guess I could have a magic locksmith. It's more likely that not all locksmiths are created equal. Some have the hardware to do it and others don't. I would ask other locksmiths... Or just go to the dealer and pay the big bucks.

If you live close enough to N GA, just go by A1 Locksmith and let them do their magic for you. http://www.a1lockdalton.com

I guess he has an OBD2 tool and knows how to use it. First I have heard of it. Congratulations.

If that sounded snide, it was not intended. It was meant to be funny. Yes, I am sure that a lot of locksmiths do not see that they could recoup the investment in an OBD2 tool. I am lucky that the one I know did. They are out there. You just gotta find them.

Can I get one through eBay and reprogram them in the stealership??

Which is best?

Thanks
I noticed my local Pep Boys has them up by the cash register.
