06 H2 Rear Spare tire Carrier won't stay latched!!!
Hey there,
Has anyone had the issue where the rear spare tire carrier will not stay latched. You can feel when you stop and start that the carrier swings out the 2-3 inches until it reaches the limit if the Pined saftey cable. It used to only do this when it was wet, but now it does it all the time.
Any suggestions??? I am afraid that (other than the anoying thud when you start and stop when it hits the extent of the cable) if that saftey cable should break that it would be a very bad thing.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brianb

I have the exterior tire carrier. Installed it myself. It's a ton of weight jostling up and down when you are on some rough roads. Have you checked to see if the little plastic covered bar is still aligned with the locking mechanism?
FYI: The bolts are suppose to be tightened to 90 ft/lbs from what I can remember. If they were not tightened to spec the carrier may have shifted downward.
