Default $$$ Can you replace or repair my heater core - IRVINE, CA

Hey guys, I need help!!!!

I have a 1996 Hummer H1 with the middle aged climate system. It's not the older digital panel, it is the 3 dials with the recirculate and AC buttons, not the newest with the 3 dials with the max AC dial setting.

My heater core blew out, coolant all over my passenger floor and I have a family ski trip planned for Xmas leaving this Sunday (if I have heat again).

The dealer will NOT replace my core and box saying they will ONLY do the $4,600 upgrade do to policy and perhaps lack of parts available. I understand their policies, they want the best for their customer.

But $4,600 for heat is not happening on my end!

I know the core breaks a few things on the way out and is from a Ford Escort. I can buy an escort core for about $30 and need someone with the skills to customize it to replace mine. Or perhaps repair mine and get me heat again?

If you are local to ORANGE COUNTY CA and want to make a few extra $$$ bucks for the holiday season and help a fellow H1 fan out, let me know!

Thanks!!!!

Which dealer you talking to? I think the older style heater cores are no longer available.

Happythree, yes you are right. I am thinking of removing (carefully) the old heater core, and finding a new heater core that matches it as close as possible and then having a radiator shop fix or modify or remove my pipes and attach to the new one. Or even custom up some new silicone pipes.

And yes, 3Hummers. AMG does not replace the old system due to how crappy it was and prone to constant core leaks. So like I said, I fully understand why the dealer wants to ONLY provide the full upgrade.

I was going to have mine repaired, but the shop got the thing apart and broke so many things due to age, it just had to be replaced with the new upgraded HVAC. The problem with the old unit is, it does not come apart easy. For the money in labor you'll spend, you will be better off with the upgrade unit, unless you try it yourself.

It came out (very carefully) and has been repaired perfectly. It's back in and still now heat though... Not sure if the vaccum valve is opening and closing properly. Need to figure out what that electrical device is called that controls the heater valve and perhaps try replacing that...

Needed a super power flush. Pushed all the junk out and water pump is pushing now. Got heat front and rear! All good now but just found out my main rear seal is leaking!
