Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Greetings from beautiful Fort Sill, Oklahoma! (Momma always said, always try to look on the bright side. )
So, I just bought my 2006 H3 replacing a 2002 Jeep Wrangler. The latter was deemed by my wife to be too unsafe on the turnpike with the Oklahoma winds. Her only request was that whatever I chose must be safe at highway speed, and getreasonable gas mileage. Well, I always liked the Hummer's rugged looks (plus I've driven a few H1s in the field), so it didn't take me long to figure out what I would replace the Jeep with.
My vehicle is a 2006 H3 base model with cloth interior and sunroof option (the wife really likes that). I purchased this one on eBay (my 4th vehicle purchased this way) from Texas Auto Direct. Yes, I checked Carfax, andfor sureI brought my scan tool to use on the test drive. My test drive lasted over an hour, and included a stop in a nice new subdivision where people stared at me while I crawled around under the vehicle. Everything checked out fine, and the vehicle was in good condition with no signs of offroad use or abuse. It was also a reasonably decent deal (includinga $1000 discount negotiated when I found a few cosmetic blemishes and the rt fog light mountbroken). It's very clean, and I love theway it drove on the 400 mile trip home. Why didn't I buy one of these sooner?!? By the way, TAD waseasy to deal with, but a little slow to get the process completed. Not their fault I suppose, as they had 80 cars going out that day. Overall, a good experience for me.
All that stuff above is the good news... Now for the bad... On the way home (about 150 miles from Fort Sill), the darned "ABS Fault, Traction Control Failure, Service Stab Sys" codes appeared. Grrr!!! Not to worry... I had just read a thread on that here on HF a few days ago. I'll follow their suggestions this weekend while I am playing with my new toy in the driveway.
So now I own a Hummer, my Jeep is for sale, and my wife loves me again. [sm=kissykissy.gif] OK, I guess that's a long enough introductory post. Thanks for providing such a helpful resource!

RE: Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Thanks for the info Doc. It looks like a minor bump on the driver side cracked the inner fender liner and fog light mount. Got the dealer to knock off $1k for it. I'm looking forward to using HF a lot more in the future, as I start working on the little issues such as this.
Thanks again!

EDIT:
The codes were caused by the folowing; sunroof leaked, drain was clogged, water flowed down the pillar and dripped on the yaw sensor, wet yaw sensor triggered said codes. Anyway, the dealership in OKC is fixing it under warranty. They cleaned the drains, replaced the sensor, took the carpet out, steam cleaned it (I hadn't even noticed it was wet), and it is now sitting in their shop waitingto dry. Oh, and they also fixed the fog light also under warranty. I must say, I am VERY impressed with this shop's attention to detail. [sm=smiley32.gif]
