What is this hose called? And what is this sludge from?

Today I was looking under the bonnet to see if there is anything irregular going on in my engine bay, and noticed that this hose was torn and oily stuff had covered it along with the part of the engine its connected to. Since its supposed to feed excess oil vapor/gasses back to the intake to burn and reduce pollution, is there something im supposed to worry about other than polluting the atmosphere?

Blocked pvc valve inside the engine.
Hopefully someone on here can help. My husband is doing some maintaince on our 2006 H3 3.5 w/ 104k. Changed out plugs and cleaned the tb & maf sensor. When he disconnected the intake resonator , he pulled the mystery hose. We think it is the crankcase vent hose. This hose is cracked and we are in need to replace it. Is this the correct name for the hose? Secondly, can we have an auto part store cut some hose for its replacement or must it be replaced with a special hose with the same bends.
My final question is the sludge that was found in this hose. What would cause this and are there repairs that need to be done? When the hose was removed we found some nasty sludge on the valve/nipple, in the hose, and the valve/nipple leading up to the intake resonator. Any help is greatly appreciated

Its the crank case ventilation hose. Just below this pipe in your picture inside the engine is a type of pvc valve that is supposed to clear vent gasses from the crank case. 9 times out of ten this gets blocked with oil sludge and it sprays out this plastic Tube into the air box. Bad. So to fix it and clear the blocked sludge. Remove the rubber hose and use a air compressor and blast air down that hose hole to clear the sludge. Make sure that your oil tip stick is pulled out slightly so the engine is no pressurized and that should fix your issues. All Hummer owners need to do this. A blocked pvc internal valve can destroy an engine because it over pressurizes it. Cheers from UK
