Throttle body spacer.....the myth is over
#12
I looked into getting one a couple of months ago, so I stopped in and talked to a technician at Street & Performance Electronics (AR). I was told that they actually RECORDED A LOSS when they tested their Helix Power Tower Plus on the 3.5L!! To hear that directly from the OEM was enough to put the $ back in my pocket.

"The spacer makes no HP on the Dyno. It makes all of it's power in torque in the low end."
Does anyone else have a problem with that line?
They make a small difference and one of those is "torque on the low end" they also help reduce lag on acceleration. Milege is hard to figure if you like to feel the difference your going to keep "testing" it. I think it is an accumlative sequence of intake, exhaust and pcm tune that adds up to the total package.
I have a little problem with this quote as well.

If that was Scott he is no longer there and left with a prototype air intake for the H3 and is interestingly working for a competitor.
Street and Performance tested theirs on a Colorado or Canyon I forget which but their dyno is not for four pulling wheels so they have not tested an H3. So whoever made that statement is suspect. They did test it on an I-5 engine.
The best solution is an Alpha.

Ah...... nothing like the resurrection of a 3+ year old thread. Doh. Let's not make this a habit!
TB Spacers = paper weight.
They in theory would work with the old TB injected motors as the fuel would enter BEFORE the spacer. They can't do chit for modern injected motors as the fuel is added substantially after the spacer. There is a ton of internet chatter on the lack of real data supporting that a TB spacer does anything beneficial.
A port and polish to the TB will do more than any TB spacer can possibly accomplish for post 1999 year vehicles.

Throttle body spacer
I can't bring myself around to buy a throttle body spacer for my H3 because of all what I have been hearing no horsepower gain and very little added low end torque. I was wondering has anyone done the dyno test w after market air intakes also w throttle body spacer? No one ever really specified testing it w stock or aftermarket intake. Does it or would it make any difference stock or aftermarket I take w it? And with little gain in low end torque, would that be good for off roading?
I can care less about saving gas or going faster. It's a HUMMER. I care about it's off road performance so if the throttle body spacer helps low end power then I actually may consider a throttle body spacer.

Throttle Body Spacers do NOTHING..... 650Hawk summed it up nicely.
It would do as much hanging from your tail pipe as it would slapped behind the TB or anything else you can put in front of or behind it.
