My radiator just cracked at the top by the grille... Just hit 50,000 miles.

Mine had the GM radiator crack on top too . I took it to a radiator shop and they had a cap In stock . He said he gets a lot of GM radiators in with that type of crack . $60.00 later it was fixed . R&R time about 2 hrs in my driveway . Total fix for radiator,coolant,lunch and beer about $100.00 .

2006 w/ 102k and it decided to go while I'm deployed and the wife and kids are on road trip. --of course !!!
Wife was 50 miles outside Flagstaff and determined that it was leaking 1/2 gallon every few hours. She pressed on and made it to Vegas taking to it Carmax. Extended warranty just paid itself off: Radiator, hoses, and O2 sensor, tranny dipstick tube, and TPMS system all getting repaired. (ive been putting off O2 and TPMS).
Is there a reinforcement or something to prevent it from happening again??

I used fuel line to protect it from hitting the core support . I split the line and put over the edge of the core support then reinstalled the radiator . I did see a very easy mod that I may try soon. They re drilled the top support strap bolt hole pushing the radiator away from the core support. You only need to move it away very slightly to keep it from contacting the edge of the core support.

i think letting the rad find its place with the hoses is best, like floating,no stress.
yrs ago i took advice here and cut a thin strip of the metal away with a cutoff saw. very simple. no contact at all.

Just purchased a 2007 H3 on 12/5/15. Bought the extended warranty. Noticed upon getting home had the same "spray" on the fan shroud as described on the first page of this thread. We are technically on the week test drive as we wait for the title but I know the wife already loves this rig since she made me paint the wheels within 24 hours of having it. I'll certainly take the advice and make them replace with the all aluminum radiator. I've only been here 3 days and find this forum incredibly useful.

my 06 h3 is also leaking between the top tank and the core. It started leaking very slowly around 90,000 miles. I now have 92,000 and it is spraying pretty good. I notice it is not necessarily kissing much from the overflow tank all at one time but it is progressively getting worse. I am trying to make it until after Christmas seeing as I have been out of work since the end of September with back issues. I to have noticed that there seems to be a problem with how it is mounted and is wearing on the front against the cross piece under the hood. I love my hummer but if this is going to be an ongoing issue with the new radiator then that is going to suck. If anyone has figured out how to help prevent this problem I would greatly appreciate some input.

First replacement radiator on our '07, we had less than 24 hrs before a 3.5K road trip and had to fork out top dollar and have dealer install new one!.
After install that time with 15 minutes and a die grinder we ground the part that had been rubbing and looked for any other poorly thought out contact points! Either ground or padded those points. No more rub issues these last 7 years!
This summer at over 250K miles we did install another only because we had our H3 tore down for new clutch pilot bearing and felt new radiator (after market lifetime guaranteed) was worth installing while easier
