I honestly don't know what the difference is except I just found out that we have an aftermarket one, but it says Hummer on it. I always thought it was an original but it's not. I have had no problems with it and it works just great. Here's what ours looks like

Like anything else the super cheap ones are crap, the super expensive ones are not worth the price.
The dealer price for OEM is bend over, no lube.

The cheap sets will be sloppy.

The good ones are in the $300 range from a reputable source.

Thanks Guys that s what i thought! The original Parts are way to expensive and cheap one are always cheap. The only tricky thing is to figure out which one is the right one since they all look the same!!!
Will figure it out and let you know.
Cheers

Before buying my crossbars I did extensive research on the differences and here's what I learned:

OEM crossbars are extruded aluminum, 250lb. capacity.
E bay crossbars are rolled & formed stainless steel, 150lb. capacity.
OEM's have individually molded letters spelling HUMMER on the end caps.
E bay's have a molded rectangle and come with stick-on letters.
OEM keys are quality.
E bay keys have had many reports of breaking.
OEM's lock into roof tracks securely.
E bay's have been reported to shift out of mounting position.
OEM's are 2 to 3 times the price of E bay's, but if you look you may come across a good deal on C.L......I picked up my OEM's for $75

bought mine off ebay and they shift forward and aft quite a bit. See the following video https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6u7xr182ervwehz/qOakVYHvbY

I am sending them back as they won't anchor down and could cause property damage and a safety issue for other drivers. I am guessing that most of the other e-Bay racks fit about the same.

Like anything on ebay, there is cheap foreign crap and good stuff, you just need to research to figure out which is which. There are aftermarket racks that are from the same rack company that Hummer contracted through. Like Halo said, the OEMs were aluminum, first thing to look for.

Within 30 miles of my house there are four rack suppliers for GM and they can sell to aftermarket when their contracts allow, or when the obligation not to expires.

Bought mine from ebay for about $120 dollars. I've actually used mine many times on caving trips or quad riding trips with a Yakima installed, with zero issues. Sure, they wiggle a little bit. Is that even a serious issue?
