Not another tire thread, 265's vs. 285's and the whole leveling fiasko
Hate to start another thread in this regard. I thought my H3 had adventure package but it turns out it doesn't. It has the stock 265's that still got meat on them but they got cracks between the threads, so time to replace. I wanted to get something bigger 285's or maybe even 305's for the sake of aesthetics. Will I need to re-gear or do anything if I go bigger? Anything to keep in mind?
As for the leveling, previous owner lifted the front end to 24" which I thought would be ok with adventure shocks, but now after reading several threads, I am not too sure. What shocks are good for smooth ride and some non rock climbing off-road? Should I lower the front a bit?

IMHO there is no reason any H3 should have smaller tires than 285s. 265s look silly but are great for a pavement princess, if you are into that?
There are 100s of people running I5s with 315s. There really is nothing to re-gear an I5 to, it already has 4.56s.
Over the years the generally agreed to max front height is 23.5" Fender Lip to Hub Center. 24" is pushing it, and as we found out over time, likely to cause issues after a while.
My thoughts on H3 shocks: Adventure series are good off road and on pavement, but I prefer Old Man Emu Nitro Chargers as the ride is similar, but they are heavy duty in comparison.

When gas started climbing this last few years I went to a less rugged, longer wearing, 265.
I'm glad I did because it has saved me some great coin. Princ's can now buy his honey some bling.

Back in the day (before computer controlled anything... and before cell phones) we used our brains to figure out that larger diameter tires would make the speedo show a slower than actual speed and how much based upon the difference in stock tires and new tires in place.
If you want, HP Tuners can easily accommodate tire size changes, as can many bi-directional scanners.
