Default Front Skid Plate/Guard Removal Question

'09 front visible skid guard/plate rusted where the plastic bumper rubbed the paint off. I am thinking I can remove it by taking off the front tow hooks and a couple other bolts. Has anyone pulled this off? Are there any bolts under the bumper that I am NOT seeing?
Thanks

There are only 4 bolts that are all visible and you don't need to take anything else off to get to them. You are talking about the plate that has "H3" stamped on it right? Are the bolts rusted?

Just remove the 2 bolts that are visible from the front and the 2 that connect to the underneath skid plate and it will come right out. I don't think they stamped H3 on the skid plate since 07. My 06 had it but the 08 didn't. Have fun.

Are you talking about #16? That would be the front bumper facia.

It is easier to take off the entire front bumper, just 8 bolts and a bunch of pop clips. There are a bunch of little U clips that hold the facia to the bumper, real easy to take it apart laying face down. The remove the front bumper takes less that 30 minutes. Here is my 07 off the truck with the facia already removed, very similar to the 08+, just no crash bar behind it on the truck (#15).

If you are refinishing the facia, you may consider using something other than silver paint. Any paint you reapply will probably chip and rust easier than the factory coat.

I used canned bedliner on mine and the black looks much better than the silver imho and the bedliner coating has held up for 2 seasons with no issues. While no aerosol bedliner will hold up as good as a professionally applied liner, the Bed Armour by Duplicolor holds up better than most. (Duplicolor also makes a different liner product, but it is fragile and flakes off if you sneeze at it. Avoid this one. )

Here's a pic of my rig with the black bumper facia: Name: HPIM4421_zps7c8f36e4.jpg

That silver bumper just doesn't look right on the 2008's.
Gm went back to black on the 2009's & 10's, like the 2006's & 07's had.
