Default exhaust question

Hey guys, I was underneath my truck the other day power washing it and I was looking at my exhaust, and I had a few questions. I want to install a electronic exhaust cutout on my exhaust, so I can still have a quiet exhaust, and also get some power and tone when I want it, but where would be the best spot to weld it in? right after the first cat on the header, after the 2nd cat, or after the resonator? I want it to be in a good spot where I will gain power without loosing low end torque. Thanks guys

heres a vid of the electric cut out

Let me know what you guys think or if you guys have any other suggestions, I would like to gain some power out of doing an exhaust with a nice tone. thanks

honestly even with a bypass you're not going to notice any significant power gain than if you just bought a high flow muffler. the only way you'd get a decent power increase is if you had a full high flw exhaust system starting with a header (stock has a manifold, not header) and even then to justify a bypas you'd be looking at having to have a fully built engine. look at 500-600 up cars, most still run mufflers. not to mention it would sound like crap. you didn't say if you had a 5 or 8 cylinder but either way unless you have some big cubic inches an open exhaust system is going to sound bad IMHO, p,us possibly get you some unwanted attention from police.

I'd suggest a new cat back system if you're looking for something to give ya a small increase of power and a better sound. do a YouTube search and you can find plenty of sound clips of different brands.

LOUD does not equal power. Some back pressure is actually beneficial in making power.

I have a certain 1970 Olds 442, with very quiet dual exhaust, when I get on it you hear more motor and Ram Air (carb) noise than exhaust. Can't begin to tell you how many kids with way too loud exhaust on their ride have a funny "I can't believe that just happened" look on their face after watching my rear bumper pull away while they were drowned in their own noise bath.

Anyways, go ahead and make some racket and have some fun if that is what you want, it won't do much of anything in the power department.

Ok. thanks guys, and I know loud does not equal power, I do not want a loud exhaust, I want a quiet exhaust, and then I want a nice tone when I hit it. I was just wondering what would be my best way to achieve this and gain a little power, I know its not much. That why I was wondering about the cut out or to get a high flow muffler, get rid of the resonator, and put in a high flow cat or just delete that cat? I rather make a custom cat back the way I want it, that's why I need some info on it, I do not want to loose to much back pressure because if I do I will loose low end.

Just bought my wife a 2007 H3 weeks ago. Im doing the PCM and Doc's cold air intake just. Went with the 2007 due to the little gain on HP. I myself rock crawl with a 1973 Ford Bronco with a 392 stoker. My rig weights in a little over 5000 lbs with all my trail gear. Only reason I went 392 was it makes it up the mountain faster and I was a ***** wanting more power. With all the changes I did I really don't get alot out of it. With bigger tires and gearing it not a big thing on the horsepower as it is more on the torque. Driving this H3 Im very impressed what it offers, it's not a speed queen but it will be great running green or blue diamond trails or black diamond trails that are not to rocky. Lots of power equals lots of breakage. If you want sound just swap out exhaust systems. Keep it simple and be wise on exhaust size so not to lose torque if your a wheeler.
