I really don't know why the I5 gets so much hate...my h3 is my daily driver, and I love it. I get excellent fuel milage (considering the type of vehicle I'm driving) both around town and the freeway, and in 4lo its got plenty of torque to crawl over obstacles. Not once have I found myself saying "boy I wish this kicked out more power"...granted, there's no feeling lke sticking your foot to the floor of a v8, but I don't think the I5 deserves all the bad press it gets.

If I used my h3 for towing, or it was a dedicated trail rig, I would wish I had the v8. But for an every day driver/weekend warrior offroad rig, I find the I5 to be a perfect balance.

The I5 puts out gobs of low end torque. I had mid and late 70s V8 4X4 pickups that were rated at 165 -185 HP & 250-275 TQ, the LLR 3.7L puts out 242 HP & TQ and weighs over 100# less (unfortunately the H3 weighs a bunch more than those old Pick ups).

News flash, my 07 on 33s (305 MTZs) with mods can scorch stock V8 pick ups and SUVs. I would not run 35s with an I5 though, IMHO those should be reserved for the Alphas.

I do agree, it doesn't get much better than a modded H3/H3T Alpha.

I agree with you, I own a 06 H3 I5 and a 03 H2. The I5 is the perfect engine for the H3 in my own opinion.

I have been reading problem after problem people have been having with H3 and the H2's, and I have had zero.

I have a supercharged I5, it's now got enough power to do whatever I want, it's a fun daily driver and can tow up hills without holding up traffic.
I was considering moving it on and buying something else but now it's a keeper.

I was simply looking for mods/upgrades that guys have used and seen improvements with. I'm not looking to replace the 3.7 that I have, especially with 40k on it. This truck is used for weekend and beach trips on Long Island. Thanks guys for any info! God Bless

The cost has been approx $10k AUD with a custom tune and full exhaust including stainless headers. Fuel consumption is about the same on the highway but around town it's approx 50 % more due to the fun factor of racing whoever looks at me.

I actually love my modded I5 while offroading, but prefer the Alpha on the road. I drive my completely modded 6k pound I5 daily. my 06 outweighs my Alpha
