Default 2007 H3 code p0717 speed sensor

Help!! I have a 2007 H3 88K miles. The other day the engine service light came. I used my scanner and came up with the ol' P0717. I did lots of research and tried the following: Of course starting with the easy stuff

Clean the speed sensor contacts and cleared the engine light, drove a few miles and a few stops and the engine light came back on... swing and a miss, so much for the easy easy stuff.

next Ran down to the parts store got a new speed sensor, plugged it in, cleared the light and drive a few mile came home with a no light, genius smile. that was short lived as the light came on during the next trip out, swing and a miss

went out and check the fluid levels in trans, found them up to the marks, checked the ohms on the sensor, found within the specs 1400. Check the low voltage power in the plug got .22 on the one side and less on the other.

I read these forum and I am hoping someone may have more ideas.

all help appreciate before I make the dreaded trip to the shop

cheers fastlap,

At the plug to the transmission, check for 12 volts on pin E Pink wire.
Ground on the pin V Light Blue.
Verify pin K Brown/White wire is not open or shorted back to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue connector pin 23.
If all the above is OK with everything plugged in, backprobe the Brown/White and check for square wave signal with the engine running.
If no signal is present, then replace the input speed sensor.
To replace the input speed sensor requires removal of the transmission and then removal of the front pump from the transmission assembly. GL

Thanks for the path forward. A couple questions to sort me out
"At the plug to the transmission, check for 12 volts on pin E Pink wire." I take it the Plug is the Speed sensor. There are two wires to the speed sensor plug (not 100% sure of the colors but if it the speed sensor I at least have a 50% chance (haha). If there is another plug you mean please help me identify that, as I recall there was another plug that had a lot more (4 or 5) wires that go into the plug that are need to the speed sensor.

Is the plug to the transmission on the driver or passenger, fron or back of the Transmission

Is there a "normal or good" location in the line to check if there is a short?

Are these other lines all part of the same plug to the transmission?

Ground on the pin V Light Blue.
Verify pin K Brown/White wire is not open or shorted back to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue connector pin 23.

again thanks for your help, guidance and expertise

cheers

The harness is routed down the drivers side of the transmission, all wires are color coded for specific circuits, therefore you can check the wires at any point in the harness..

Just to make sure you have the right sensor, it's the ISS, not the VSS.

Here's a link to show you pictures of the sensor and the connector:

Here is a manual for you:

thanks for your input and the catalog link. I have a complete set of all the manuals. As you probably know based on your email I replace the vss on the 1st go around.

I have read you email and with great confidence rolled under the H3 to test the wires... but I failed, I could not find the wires. You mentioned the driver side but I could not find them...or the connector to test from. I did find the transfer case connector voltage is good there. Are there any diagrams or photos you could recommend to help the H3 warrior find a place to test the wires.

You also mention Pins e, V, and K where do you find the markings to confirm I have the right wires.

Unfortunately more help is requested.

Cheers

I checked the voltage as suggested at the 20 pin connector based on the picture below. (This is from a denali not a hummer h3 but the only one I could find. i could not find a diagram in the manual for the 20 pin)

I put a pin in location E and D the lt blue. I got ~12 volts.

not sure if this is the correct pins based on the notes above

any assistance on a picture for the 20 pin in a hummer is greatly appreciated
