Default Replacing PF46 with PF61 AC/Delco

I know there are many theads that talk about the differences of these filters. The PF46 is the recommended filter for our H2's 6.0l engines but the PF61 is a bit longer (approx 4.4 inches)

The straight PF61 does not have anti drainback but this is really not an issue because of where the filter mounts and that it mounts vertically. The big issue is the additional height. Some of the
original specs for the 6.0l called for the PF61. My question is will the PF61 fit in the close quarters area of the H2. I might just have to buy one and see if it fits. I would rather run a filter that is 4.4 inches in size
then the PF46 which is only 3.3 inches.

Comments are welcome.

I am assuming the filter I run is similar in size. The manuals call for a Mobil 1 filter: M1-107 which would be the same as the PF46 I believe. However, after my oil filter relocation I wanted a bigger filter since I only change the oil maybe once a year as it is only driven for shooting outings. I decided to go with the M1-209 which is much longer in length. Now granted, I relocated my filter to cut down on the mess of oil changes so I can not attest to the longer filter fitting in the stock location. I would imagine it would be a little more difficult to remove in the stock location given the added length.

All quality filters have an anti-drain back valve.

I can confirm that the PF61E does in fact have the anti-drainback even though it not needed because of how the filter or filter vertically mounts. Another filter that works fine on the LQ4/LQ9 is the Wix 51045, it is even approx 1/2 inch larger the then PF61e, unfortunately this Wix filter will not work because its just too big to fit in our H2's.

I have used the wix filter on my Silverado 2500 and it fit just fine. I plan on doing an oil change on the H2 in the near future and I will report on my sucess with the PF61E. I do believe this filter is going to fit just fine. For those using a remote mounted filter I would imagine the Wix filter or the PF61e would be a good upgrade over the PF46.

I have been using the PF61 now for some time and they work perfectly. Lets face every bit of extra filter material we can get helps.
The only draw back to this filter is that you cant get a socket cup underneath the filter to remove it like you can the PF46. So here is how I do it. With your drain basin under the filter use a pointed punch to knock a hole in the side of the filter closest to the rear and let the oil drain completely out Usually this is a good time for a beer break. Then after the oil has drained out you can use an adjusted oil strap to remove the filter. You can also just drive the punch (or longer screwdriver out the other side of the filter) and loosed up.
At that point just spin it off. No real mess or oil dripping into the frame under the engine (that is a mess to get out)
