Play in steering wheel while parked and turned off?
Today when I was getting out of my 2003 hummer h2 I noticed that the steering wheel moved a bit so I played with it a bit and when the truck is off and in park it seems to move about 1-2 inches. I thought they were usually firm when off and parked. I don’t think this is normal or is this common for our trucks? I also think maybe this is stemming to how I feel like there is more play in the steering when I am driving over bumps or driving into parking lots that are on like a slant kinda thing, it feels like I have looseness in the steering when that happen. Normal day to day driving and highway driving doesn’t seem to be affected.
My front end is all new but I am certain my idler/pitman are still stock. I have 250,000 km on the truck.
Is this probably going to turn into an expensive fix ?
thanks!

my 2003 has about an inch of play but tracks straight on the road and highway. no issues driving it. i do not have to correct steering at all. i have stock wheels and tires. tires aired to 40 psi.

just checked again, and when the truck is compeltely shut off. theres about i would say 1-1.5 inches of play maximum but only toward the left side. the right side probably only has 0.25 inch of play.
however when the truck is on and idling the play reduces to about 0.5 inch to 1 inch max

I recommend you get some medical attention for your D.I.D.

Could be no such issue. Seriously, how many 22yrolds own a 2003 H2 in 2020? My guess: -0- ZERO NADA NIL

If the wheels aren't completely straight when parked, it will have about 2 inches of play. If they are straight, I would recommend adjusting the steering box. I would only do it if it has trouble tracking straight on the road though. Mine has about an inch of play.
