Default Key stuck in ignition - somebody help!!

I've owned my H2 for 2 yrs. now and this is a first. I put the key in the ignition, to which it wouldn't turn over (dead battery - again), but now I can't get the key out. Has this happened to anyone before? Yes, I pushed on the brake, tried pushing the gear shifter to make sure it is in Park, and even pushed the key in and out to trip release. Still no luck. By the way I bought a new battery last year at this time - $260.00 for the Platinum battery. Somebody help me, please.

Check the fuse that controls the gear shifter. If that fuse is fried it might not recognize the vehicle is in park and won't allow you to remove the key from the ignition.

I had that problem a few months back, and the way I got mine out and working again, was to spray WD40 down the shifter. I think the springs/pin in the shifter assembly was sticking and not allowing the system to realize that the truck was in park. It seems as if after the WD40 worked through the shifter assembly, it has worked perfectly since. Something to at least try...

When the battery on an H2 is dead it locks the shifter in position and the key in the ignition if you insert the ket and turn it. There is a release button you can get to under the shifter plate. If you can open the hood and charge or replace the battery that should also solve the issue.

Worst case scenario there's a push button under the ignition switch that will release the lock and let you remove the key...you have to pop the bottom cover off of the steering column to get to it.

The dealer showed me this when my shift solenoid went bad in my '05 and my key got stuck in ignition.
