Engine died! On motorway (in UK ) Engine went sluggish, coughed, then ok for a while, then totally died. Turns over, tries to fire but won't. No dash gauges seem to be working & oil front drivers side of Engine around about steering box but can't see where it's coming from. Any ideas ?

 

You obviously neglected your Hummer! Now it's time for you to give the Hummer some attention. Start by repairing the oil leak, then move on to electronic contact cleaning.

 

Oil checked & changed regular. Did manage to start but only let it run briefly. Gauges working again. Need to find where oil has come from.

 

My 2005 H2 is very well maintained. However it coughed and stalled while driving in Virginia. Turned out it was coolant temperature sensor. Replaced it and all is well. Good Luck.

 

Loose battery cables? Going to have to check fuel pressure, a faulty fuel pump, maybe. Is it oil or power steering fluid?

 

After leaving it overnight, started up ok, gauges working, ran fine going home ( towing caravan) checked for codes, nothing ! Has ran fine ever since !

Glad you're OK now. Can't explain the oil though, seems like p/s fluid, on the lip of fan shroud & by the two pipes but nothing dripping from anywhere now !

 

H2 PS fluid reservoir cap seals can go bad. Then the entire PS reservoir becomes wet with fluid. No drips, but just all wet.
Is that what is happening to yours? If so, pretty normal (common). Just replace the dipstick cap gasket and you are good to go.

As for the electrical gremlin, that is another story. Could be anything. But you know it is electrical. So perhaps a loose battery cable, shorting out wire, etc.
Did you add any aftermarket accessories lately that use voltage?
Any fuses blown? If not, check everything electrical that supplies fuel and spark. Like distributor and fuel pump, battery condition for shorted cell, etc.
How old is the battery?
You need fuel and spark and timing. One or more of those are not right.
