How often do you change your differential oil on H2
Hey gang I have a 2007 H2 with 51,000 miles. Dealer says I need to have the differential oil changed at 50,000. And they want $400 to change front and rear. I see nowhere in the H2 book about this service needing to be done just checked if you see a leak. Any ideas?
Thanks

I would change it no later than 50K, I usually do mine at 30K just for good measure. I havent changed mine in the H2 yet but I am about too. I have 36k miles but I am fairly sure the fluid is the original from 2005, so in my book its getting a little old. I just called my dealer and they quoted me about the same price, which is very high for such a simple job, I'm gonna do mine myself.
I'll probably pay someone to change the tranny and xfer case fluids..

$400 to change two diff fluids is crazy. I could see if it was an oil change, trans service, transfer case and the two diffs. that would be about $400. 50,000 miles is a good time to replace all the fluids. Including your brake fluid.

5 quarts of 75/90 gear oil for a total price of like $45 ---- think 2 for the front, and 3 for the back.. i just filled it till it started leaking from the fill hole. ( thats what she said!)
something that will hold old gear oil - gallon milk jug..
10 mins in my garage with a 3/8 rachet wrench
thats 10 mins or so for both diffs. this is too easy to not do it yourself.
take the old oil to any jiffy lube or oil change shop and they will dispose of it for free.

Must agree. Front and rear, drain and refill. I use a primer bulb you can get from Walmart RV section to pump fresh fluid back into the pumpkins. Always use sythetic. AS for the transfer case, im debating using gear oil instead of trans fluid. Tcase and 4L60E trans's are great for SUVs. Hummers should have been beefed up. They go out around 120000 miles ive noticed. Probably because these gears and frictions are tossing around 6000 or more lbs daily.

I changed all my fluids when I bought mine. The diffs are insanely easy and honestly so is everything else! I used a small hand pump to fill the transfer case and another one for the diffs because I bought a gallon of gear oil.
FYI, I had a quart of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my garage. Pulled it out to top off my tranny. Read the back and found out it does NOT meet the requirements in the manual.
