H2 Fuel Tank / Fuel Pump

Not exactly but yes. My understanding is on 2004 and newer models that strainer on the pump is the only fuel filter and is not really replaceable. On the 2003 models there is an external fuel filter attached to the crossmember just at the front of the tank which is fairly easy to replace. Later models do not have that replaceable one.

Yes, as notated in the second pics. On the 2003 The fuel filter is mounted on the front of the fuel tank just behind the center cross member. It is a little awkward to get to but can be done. You have to work blindly (by feel) to get the fuel line connections on and off. Just make sure your head is not directly under the filter or you’ll get a face full of residual fuel coming out of the lines!

Great write up, unfortunately I had my Fuel pump go out about a year ago now during a snow storm 3 hours from home, great timing. Normally I do all work on my vehicle but for the price of getting it towed 3 hours it was cheaper to have someone else do the work. Believe it cost me $560 with parts and labor. FYI GM wanted $1,100. I have an 03 as well and I've had a new external filter sitting in my garage for at least 4 years now that needs to go on.

Is going to be a fun weekend .
The pump on my H2 quit working. Well another thing to replace. After all the repairs I almost have a 2019 truck
Could you post the procedure to remove the tank . Did you remove the hoses with tank hanging or there is enough slack to pull it down then remove it
Also would I be able to siphon the gas . Is there anything blocking a hose going thru the gas door
Anything else to look once tank is down . Hoses ? Lines ? . . Cleaning Etc
Thanks . Those pics are great

My 2008 H2 is seeping gas around #8 in that diagram, the base of the fill neck on the rear end of the fuel tank where the fill hose clamps to. What kind of sealant did you use?

Not a good one b/c I just started smelling gas again. Your issue sounds like it needs a new hose and clamp.
