Default Gas tank needed for 2004 H2

Found out today our H2 needs a new gas tank bc the charcoal canister is spitting out charcoal into the gas tank.
GM doesn’t make the tank anymore.
looked around the Internet. Only find it on eBay. How reliable is eBay to buy OEM parts?

remove the gas tank and clean it out through the fuel pump opening. blow out your lines and replace the charcoal canister. might want to also replace the pump. the pump should have a screen on it to keep debris out.

Thanks for suggestion. It’s in the shop now so I’ll mention it to mechanic. Just wondering why he wouldn’t tell us that. Seems like the right move.

pretty much all fuel pumps have a filter sock or fuel strainer on the mouth of the pump

Fuel tank produces pressure not vacuum, there is a 1-way vent valve between the tank and the canister!

if the purge solenoid was stuck that would create a vacuum in the fuel tank.

The purge solenoid was replaced about three months ago.

Seriously???? I have bought and sold 100s of OEM parts via ebay. When looking for any part, my go to online places include rockauto and ebay.

When buying any part from a local dealer, use a lubricant and bend over.

Lazy 'mechanics" want easy repairs they can crank out and bill for (replace part A with new part A, get paid). When asked to use actual skill and knowledge to perform WORK to correct something how you want it done/the right way, they balk............ then you walk or run to real mechanic.
