Default Exterior Spare Tire mount won't stay closed

I've searched here and can't find anything. The spare tire mount will close, but when you take off down the road, it lets the swing arm loose. Only thing that saves it is the cable. Well... the cable broke today.

Been looking for how to fix this or parts to replace. GM told me to replace the entire catch mechanism is $2300! Just to replace the small piece of cable, it's $140.00

They've lost their mind... Acting as if they are owned by the federal government. LOL. Anyone know what could cause this? I've tried tinkering with it, but it will not work. I can replace the cable myself (splice it should I say), but that's just temporary. Really don't want to take the spare off and move the spare to the inside.

Any suggestions would be great.

First, lube it up really good, then loosen the alignment bolts, close the carrier and then tighten the bolts, this should take care of it.

I have an aftermarket one, but yes. I had to do the same thing when I installed it. lube it up, loosen the bolts, align the catch and then tighten it. worked like a charm with no rattling.
