Hummer H1 The original Hummer, which brought the Hummer look to the public eye during Desert Storm, with the addition of some features that make the H1 more of a street vehicle and less of a Army truck

Default Trying to get the right H1 for me.

HI all,

new here so bear with me please.

I am looking to purchase a H1. I got a basic Ideal on the features I want but seem to be a bit overwhelmed with models and lack of options on certain years.

The features I want is:
4 door wagon hard top
6.5 L Diesel or 6.5 turbo diesel.
Power Everything
Grille Guard
Winch
Roof Rack
Towing package
Tire Air inflation

I do intend to lift it slightly no more than 6 to 8 inches.

1. Is there any particular years to look for or to avoid?

2. Is there years with poor mechanical issues?

3. Is there years with weaker body or less structural support than others.

4. Is there years that are harder or almost too expensive to lift?

Any help would be appreciated.

6.5L motor was used from 94-2004. 96-2000 TD had a #8 cylinder issue that you need to be aware of. The 6.5NA motors from 94-96 were bullet proof. The offroad package had the winch. Roof racks were available from the factory but most were put on as aftermarket accessories. The earlier trucks had less power, fewer options, etc. Budget will play a role in what years you need to look at. A 6-8 inch lift is a big deal on an H1. It will significantly change the geometry of your suspension, drive and half shafts. I would not recommend it. Trucks from 96 and up could be ordered with most any option you would want so you will just have to see if the truck you are looking at is optioned as you want.

TY,

Price is not a concern but dependability is.

I have so far looked at over 20 different models and have not had any luck finding one that passes a bumper to bumper inspection. It might be the Pacific Northwest environment that might have adverse effects on the vehicles.

I have noticed that on all the models so far serious signs of rust on the underside just behind the front wheels. Is this a common problem or just unique to the wet environment up here?

I have also took a 2006 hardtop for a test drive and inspection and so far its been the most impressive but it could also be that its just a lot newer. The newest model with the 6.5L I have so far found was a 2002 with High miles.

At this time I am starting to expand my search to the 13 western states. Hopefully I can find something worth the expense and the effort.

Southern and southwestern trucks will be rust free. The rust you describe is not typical on trucks I have seen.
