Default Gas Mileage Improvement after 2,000 miles?

I was told by my salesman (who was awesome by the way) that I would see an improvment in overall gas mileage after 2K or so put on the H3.

I didn't buy the H3 to get good gas mileage and I right now I am getting what I expected. 320 miles to the tank when the alert came on to fill up.

Is this true or should I continue to get 320 per tank or so with 60% city and the rest highway driving.

Thanks!

I wish i could get 320 to a tank i'm at 240-260 no better than that! why is there such a wide range of mpg between all of us. I know mpg changes from driving habits but there is a huge range. any thoughts?

After some engine break in, itshould do a little better yes...mine did. I can get to about 335 before the gas alert comes on and if I am not mistaken, it comes on with approx. 3 gallons of gas left in the tank which in all actuality might get one an additional 40-50 (approx) miles. However there are some here who don't seem to even come close to this.

Driving style obviously, geography perhaps in your widely traveled areas (MUCH stopping & starting?),some mods/addons such as larger tires, possibly lightbars, etc, etc. or else your engine just sucks...gas lol

I'm just about to finish my first tank (bought H3 last week), but I would say that the variance in gas mileage, whether > or < 2,000, is largely due to driving style. Given the weight of the vehicle relative to the power of the engine, those that stop and go quickly / speed up quickly after each stop sign or pass a lot on the highway etc. will consume more gas than the easy come /easy go driver. If you make your engine work hard, its going to suck more gas - whether city or highway driving. Perhaps I am stating the obvious?

I get 14.6mpg on average for about 290 on the light. I live at 5600' (+/-). That might have something to do with my milege. I have just under 5000miles in the odo.

You may get a little better mileage as the engine breaks in, but don't expect any great increases. It is what it is. I had my truck with the stock set-up for the first 17,000 miles and never got better than 17/18 mpg on the highway. As for to 20 MPG posted on the window sticker. The H3 couldn't get 20 mpg going downhill, with atail-wind, and the cruise control set at 45 mph.Just my opinion - not scientific fact. Maybe we can get Hummerguy to set up a little test seeing as how he likes to tinker. (he-he)[sm=hail.gif]

there is alot of factors do you use regular or premium, altitude has alot to do with it, terrain ( hilly or flat), synthetic oil or regular oil, do you have size 13 feet or size 7,is your girlfriend big or small, are you big or small, do you haul kids or no, how about a dog? what kind of tires do you have? is your front factory or is it leveled, do you drive with the sunroof open or closed,i could go on for a while but you get the idea.
